The Open Data Model brings the benefits of collaboration to the world of database design.

The site aims to bring together data modelers and subject matter experts both from IT and business. The purpose is to reach consensus on the best way to represent any given set of facts, by ensuring those facts are truly understood. This will be achieved through forums, where a supplied subject area prototype will be the starting point. From these discussions, the optimal model for each subject area will evolve. The goal is designs that can be copied and used very directly as the basis of production database systems, actual building blocks from which applications can be very directly constructed.

The Open Data Model is not your father’s data model. The ODM style and standards ensure every subject area model can be seamlessly integrated with any other subject area model with which it shares any data objects. The scope is global over multiple business domains. To enable coverage to expand incrementally we had to solve some very difficult problems. The problems and their solutions are extensively covered in the launch day presentation. This presentation is in three parts and is available for you to view.
